Can anybody make bushes???
Discussion
Hello all
Got a major problem with a Mercedes which i never expected.
Basically the bottom shocker bushes on both the rear shockers have worn out really badly and need to be replaced. Major problem is that these bushes are not available separately from Mercedes, in another cash stripping bid they list the bushes as complete with the shockers.
Iv tried everywhere to find an alternative but to no joy.
So is there any company out there who can maybe custom make bushes for me?
Thanks
most polybush manufactureers offer the sevice, flowfow do and deflex ? or you can make your own using two-pack liquid pouring polyurethane

The shockers are perfectly fine, just the bushes that are worn.http://www.carshockabsorbers.co.uk/?gclid=CMjBk-O2...

Polybush havnt got anything of the same size, but the first idea of making your own is not too bad at all. Probably wont get it right the first time but who cares, at that price its got to be worth a shot. Dont know if i have the skill or the patience though.found a how too here

These both seem the ideal places, dont know about the costs involved but both seem to be able to custom make the bushes.have a look through the online catalogues from these guys .. see if there's anything that will do.

Will be on the phone to them tomorrow and see what they can offer.
Thank you very much.
Be careful of poured polyurethane bushes they're usually full of air bubbles and have a poor strength,
The best poly bushes I've used are superflex, they're forced into moulds under pressure resulting in an extremely resilient high strength bush. Very little else in a poly bush comes close under hard working conditions.
For a damper end bush though bonded rubber is your best bet by far.

I've seen a lot worse than those Are you getting any movement then? A lot of old Mercs have worn looking bushes but there isn't actually any play in the parts... Have you tried a breaker like Mercman for a good used pair?
Just for the sake of it iv been trying to get a replacement shocker for the last 2 years and iv yet to see someone here in the UK with one. There are one or 2 available on ebay from the USA but by the time they get here its still about £500 each. The risk your taking there is that they might arrive and the bushes on them might be on their way out as well.
There are quite a few companies that make bonded rubber bushes in a range of sizes, usually for industrial applications. If you can get accurate ID, OD and width measurements you might be able to find something suitable.

Polybush can be turned down in a lathe
Metal insert should be a mm longer than shock mount and polybush
The idea is that the steel insert clamps to the bracket on the car and the polybush turns with the shock
Buy one slightly bigger and get an engineer with a lathe to fit it
That should be a lot less than your quoted prices

Very easy to turn up a Delrin bush on a lathe, much stiffer and stronger than polybushes.
Acetal (and other hard bush materials) often aren't a good choice for damper bushes. As well as not providing much in the way of isolation from noise/vibration, any change in angle between the mounting points over the suspension motion will cause binding.Gassing Station | Suspension, Brakes & Tyres | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
