Getting a tyre bought online fitted

If you ran a pub, would you let people sit down and drink their 6 pack of cheap supermarket beer on your premises just because they bought a packet of crisps from you?
If they were going to pay me £60 to rent the table for 15 minutes, damn right I would. Infact I'd encourage it!It's pure profit - the kit is already there, unless the workshop is fully booked for weeks you are literally throwing profit in the bin to turn it down.

How much does a tyre removal machine & balancer cost? If someone is willing to donate some garage space maybe we could have a PH whip around
I too have been refused (out of principle it felt like), it was a right pain. Will probably go with fitting included next time.
About £200 for the whole lot if you buy the manual machine. Go on flea bay and have a look.I too have been refused (out of principle it felt like), it was a right pain. Will probably go with fitting included next time.
The manual machines are portable and don't take up much space to store. I have some frame fixings drilled into my garage floor which I anchor it to once I've pushed the car out of the way.

I'm in Bromley, Kent. Tried Tyre Pros (small chain) who flat out refused, and a local independant who said their insurance only let them fit their own tyres (which I can sort of understand).
Have you tried places from their list - they show 34 places in Kent?Did find a local place in the end and was going to pop down there tomorrow, but they want £18 which seems a bit steep. Might try the one in Orpington that somebody mentioned as £10 sounds fair.
I have used etyres and event tyres for years as they are generally very competetive and it is so easy. Last time I got them done at a garage (winters on my Saab) they used knock on weights on alloys and overtightened them so much that I broke 2 alloy wheel keys getting them off
Thanks for all the suggestions - good to know I am not the only one in the same boat. Does seem odd as it's all profit for them - if they are not busy then surely it's better than sitting on their arses not making any money... Happy to pay £50 for all 4 wheels.

So their Dunlop (insert brand) tyres are different to anyone else's? What a load of old tosh!
My local place always do the same for me, cost £25 to remove the old tyres and disposal and fit and balance the new set which I supply.

From whose list?
I don't know why, but I was convinced you said you'd bought from Tyreleader. Anyway, their list: http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/fitting-tyres/

Use indepedants, don't know if its been covered (only read the first page) but the two places near a that have fitted them for me are;
Watling tyres (Swanley branch)
The independent that's in a small garage opposite the McDonalds on Sevenoaks way, Orpington and the independent tyre place in Lee, Bromley side of the station near the junction with the south circular, although that was ages ago

Hi,
If you don't mind going to Orpington, I have just had 4 tyres fitted that I supplied. The place is called Just tyres (if I remember correctly), it's on sevenoaks way opposite broomwood road. It's set back abit with yellow signs.
Or I have also used tyres r us, which is on the Orpington one way system along side kwik fit. They both charged £10 a wheel.
Hope this helps.
Hmm, google streetview shows a hire place opposite the end of Broomwood Rd. Or do you mean the National Tyres just south of that? Edit, ah no, looks like the latest streetview pics have it as "the tyre shop", opposite McDs (used to be a pub) - same as kiethton mentioned.
There's a Tyres 4U on the Orpington 1 way system just before KwikFit...

Just had a new tyre fitted on the MINI this morning at a local independent. I asked the proprietor his views on buying tyres elsewhere and getting him to fit them.
"Go for it" he said. "I'm a small firm and can't get volume discounts so only make £10-£15 per tyre. If you bring your own it's £12 for balance and fitting and I haven't got the ballache of holding stock."

If I can buy a tyre online for £50 then I don't see why a garage will claim they cannot buy it that cheaply. They could also buy it online from the same place at the same price then charge me for fitting it.
It makes no business sense to pretend it is not possible and send customers away. It is time to accept that things have changed and you can't get away with overcharging for identical items.

Anyway it's a crap analogy.
As for the tyre place. It's not like they would turn you away for a puncture repair which involves removal, replacement, wheel balancing, valve etc just because you had bought the tyres elsewhere.
I've never had a problem with this and get charged £7.50 a corner at my local fitters which I think is very reasonable for the service they provide.
