Hi all,

What determines how much gap there is between the top of your tyres and the wheel arches? I know this will vary from car to car. I assume it is the length of the suspension struts? I think the distance between my wheel arches and the wheels at the back is overly large even when comparing to the front wheels and cars of the same model. What can cause this distance to increase and could it indicate a problem?

Thanks for the advice.

What car?

I can't think of much stuff that would break and make it go higher unless there is something like airbag suspension.

The springs usually set the height, or the weight of the car on the springs.

Usually if there's a suspension issue you'd expect it to sag on one side or not return to the same point after pressing down on the bumper. I suspect then it's just how it is and never really noticed how high it is and maybe there's quite a lot of variation between cars of the same model even. It's a vw up.
