As others say, they've definitely been split at some point...when, who knows.
As for pictures....pictures dont show if they move freely and with no play.
And many spurious aftermarket parts....some might only last 2 months. Quite often OEM parts really are the best option for replacements.

You most definitely can "adjust" it. As with pretty much every steering rack there is a spring loaded pad that pushes the rack against the pinion, and the preload on the spring can be adjusted.
