Hi,

Here is a link to the noise - https://youtu.be/OTDMxaasW98

The car is a 17 Audi TT. Had the AA take a look, the guy was certain it was a trapped stone. He took everything apart and could not find anything. The sound goes away when braking and is more noticeable when turning.

Thank you in advance!

Sounds like the pads are not fully retracting and are scraping on the disk.Did he check that the metal backing plate isn’t fouling on the inside of the disk?

Firstly watch your fingers spinning wheels like that. I no somebody who lost the tip of his finger doing what you did in the video, caught his finger between the Caliper and the wheel,
Check the back plate isn’t rubbing on the disc
They can get bent when the wheel is removed
Just enough to rub the disc it only needs to just touch it lightly and it will sound horrid,
Did he take off the brake disc ? Sometimes stones get caught inside the bell of the disc the centre part that goes over the hub assy

I just checked again and the sound is only present for the last quarter of the rotation unlike the video I took this morning. He checked everything including the brakes. Now you mention it, because he took the brakes off then put them back on and the sound has half gone, it must be the brakes.

Ouch! That would of been a painful lesson learnt. Thanks for the warning. From what I can remember he removed the wheel hub and brake pads but did not remove the disc.
