As above, all 3 Avon ZV7s have bad cracks in both the tread sections and walls, one @ only 2 years old and the other 2 @ 4 years old.

A second vehicle has Avon’s on the rear and both of these also have cracks @ just 4 years old.

Anyone else had this with Avon tyres ?

Did you drive much over lock down?
How old are the actual tyres?
You can find the date on the side wall

Also only 3 tyres?
So you have 2 different brands on one of the axles? Thats not very wise.

Yes, exact same tyre and all four of them have cracking exactly like this (Random internet picture, not my tyres)

They are not even three years old and have over 50% of the tread remaining. The DOT code is not old and the car was parked in a garage with correct tyres pressure for the first two years.

I bought them as I thought they would be better than the random Black Circles Triangle/Goodride/Ling Long budget option but in my opinion this is a false economy as they need replacing due to cracks after a couple of years.

I personally will never buy Avon tyres again.

Based on this thread, you might want to add Michelin, Conti and Goodyear to that list too.

I had this with Avons ZV3's on my Mk1 Octavia vRS. Cracks in the sidewall & tread area after buying it (at three years old). Stuck new Avons on, same thing a couple of years later. Hardly worn; failed MOT. Changed to Conti's & more recently Goodyears & never had a problem with either.

Yes - same here on the Avon ZX7 rain tyres

Gutted as they were excellent in the wet.

It seemed like the one that cracked worst was the corner that probably sat in the sun the most often, so I put it down to a UV / Rubber issue.

Had 3 out of 4 need changing after about 3 years (15,000 miles) - still had 50% + life left in them. MOT tester said if he shined his torch into the cracks and could see the fibers of the carcass it was a fail.

I replaced them two years ago hoping that it was just a bad batch / manufacture issue - I'll check tomorrow to see how they are looking.

Had something similar (but worse) on Goodyear. Had them sent back for a partial refund.

Hi,
Just discovered 3 of my Avons have these cracks around the tread, exactly like the picture. They have been on the car for about 2 tease and covered only about 2-3000 miles. The 4th tyre is a continental which is older but it’s fine.
I also bought the Avons thinking that they would be better than budget brand.
Very disappointing as I bought 4more Avons this summer for my VW camper.

Mine are still on the car, last MOT stated "Offside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing cracking".

It's a shed and now has a failing injector so I am planning on running it to the MOT expiry and then scraping it with these tyres on.

But I certainly would never buy them again.

Exactly the same cracking appeared on my Avon ZV7's fitted to the front of my Focus after only 6200 miles. The MOT less than three years later gave an advisory on them both due to cracking. I was amazed and annoyed.
I complained to Avon but they said to contact the tyre fitter.
I couldn't be bothered in the end as I just knew I would be caught in the middle between Avon and the tyre fitter and just had two new tyres of a different make fitted and made a note to never buy Avon again.
There is definitely an issue with these tyres, the Kumhos on the back are absolutely fine despite being older.

Had exactly the same thing on a set of Avons on a car I bought a few years ago. Would never buy Avon.

Bumping this as just noticed similar cracks on Avon tyres and im pretty sure they are only 24 months or so old as they were put on either during 2020 or late 2019. Ive had similar on good year too.

Is this a sign of some eco friendly rubber or something stupid like that? It seems to affect lots of brands these days. Not sure how dangerous it actually is but if the MOT is flagging it thats enough to be replacing tyres every 2 years or so, which is hardly eco friendly.

Annoying to say the least. Happened on my first set which I probably bought about 7 years ago (lasted 3 years on a low mileage car) - The tyre that went the worst was the corner that gets the most sun.. had to replace 3 out of the 4 due to cracks. The 4th lasted another year.

.. thinking it was just a bad batch I replaced with another set of ZX7s (because they did transform the vehicle in the wet - no complaints there!) - Now the car sits in the shade a lot more and it hasn't happened since.

Hmm good point on sun exposure and the Avons i refer to do sit outside all day, but then... shouldnt they be made so they can tolerate UV exposure, they are an outdoor component after all! Conversely the good years I had crack were on my car which sits in a garage all day and only goes out a few times a week, so no UV exposure but in this instance I was told bare concrete floors and lack of use can cause cracks.

Suspect tyres are just a bit rubbish these days.

Just bumping this thread as I've also had a nightmare experience with Avon ZZ5s with horrendous cracking/ dry rot on the tread blocks and perimeter of the tyre. My tyres are 3 years old and covered less than 8K miles on a BME 535d e61. Always checked and correctly inflated.

I've been battling with the retailer all day; Tyre Shopper/ National Tyres and they just don't want to know. Avon themselves won't even answer the enquiry.

It's worth noting that all the major tyre retailers claim to offer a Lifetime Guarantee on all tyres sold regardless of mileage. But the reality is they want you to buy new tyres from them and go through some convoluted process of returning the tyres to the manufacturer with accompanying paperwork and awaiting some verdict after 12 weeks... This isn't a guarantee in my book, just a complete fob off...

Needless to say will never be buying Avon again. I had at least 5mm remaining on those tyres and evenly worn. All 4 have the same fault and they are now too dangerous to use at anything approaching motorway speeds.

They do look ancient.

Just following up from my post above / train of thought - was it parked in direct sunlight? (although I guess the fact its 'all four' rules that out a bit as it would only be one side that gets hit by the stongest sun - as per what happened to my ZX7s - the side that caught the sun cracked first)

Let's face it, there are multiple threads here nearly weekly about tyres cracking.

It's a common occurrence across many brands, has been for years.

Has anyone actually had a reply back from AVON?

I've tried.. sent them emails, photos... nothing.

2nd set failed MOT within 3 years due to cracking between the tread blocks - I thought the first set might have been a bad batch.. but seems like thats it: 3 years and done - regardless of how much tread / life is left.
