Doesn't look too deep. They are date stamped 2009 so are older but have plenty of tread on them and otherwise pass visual inspection. Not a good time to be buying tyres and I suspect replacing these wont be cheap , they seem to have gone up by 35% recently too.

They look pretty ropey to me, I'd replace 'em. Out of interest, what car are they on?

A Dodge Van B250, 235/75 R15, they are not as expensive as I had feared.

Get rid urgently before they shred at 70mph and give you a far bigger bill.

Would it do 70mph ?

In the real world, I've seen 2 year old tyres with worse cracking, nevermind 12 year old tyres.

If they concern the owner, and they do drive it a lot etc...then replace them.

If it's only occasional use, not essential, but look to do it soon.

From what I can see, I don't think they would fail an MOT, but would advise replacing, especially if it does anything more than local trundling around.

12 years old, they will be gone and replaced if it was me! Tyres can be severely worn inside (the bits we do not see) blow out potential, wouldn't risk it.

£80/90 (fully fitted for that size) isnt too expensive, seem to be hovering around that for mid-range on Blackcircles.

I was thinking these were doing Ok until I saw those cracks. "11 years old but no cracks and plenty of tread" was my policy but I can see that tread section separating on those cracks and flying off at speed and that wouldn't be good.

I've gone for these bad boys, cost was less than I feared and they had an offer on them at Costco

These get some good reviews for low road noise but will give me the flexibility to take this thing skiing or to go off road camping. I don't do huge miles but I do some motorway driving as well as mountain roads

Glad you replaced them. Most tyre manufacturers quote a maximum tyre life of 10 years at which point they should be replaced regardless of wear.

Rubber ages, even without use. Ingredients designed to keep the tyres pliable start breaking down and the tyres can start losing structural integrity.

Last thing you want is a blow out or structural failure. Have a look at some high speed tyre blow out video’s on youtube. Definitely eye opening.
