Morning.

The tyres on my 211 E Class estate are approximately 10 years old with the date code showing week 36 2013.

Three of them are Bridgestone Turanza MO spec and one is a budget Triangle.

Going by the MOT history they must have done nearly 60k miles, or had been sat around on a shelf for a while before fitting.

They're looking a bit dry and cracked on the edges of the tread and are around 50% worn.

I'm thinking it would be wise to replace them sooner than later? I know on commercial vehicles 10yr old tyres is an MOT fail.

Black Circles is coming up cheapest currently with Hankook Ventus S1 Evo being the lowest priced MO spec ones (not particularly bothered about MO spec, but assuming they must be half decent)

Halfords appear to be most competitive for Good Year Eagle Asymmetric 6 as they have 10% off currently - approx £540 fitted for 4.

Any other recommendations for retailers or tyre recommendations? Uniroyal Rainsports are OK price wise too and ive had them before.

Thanks

If it were mine, I would go for the Assy 6, they are a superb tyre.

Definitely replace - everyone knows about tread depth, PH "pub bore" types bang on about brand but everyone forgets about tyre age.

You dont say what model of W211 and that will make a difference. I always tend to put Continental sport contacts on mine. I'm not a tyre brand fetishist but this what the car was designed to run on and they do give it the best, most resolved ride and handling by far

Is it a square set up or staggered, with different sizes front and rear?

Few years ago I had a C Class estate that I didn't use much with a staggered set-up. It had Bridgestones Turanza's on from the factory and it was like driving on iron rings. It was also particularly hopeless in slippy weather so I put All Seasons on it.

At the time (2014) I couldn't get same tyre in both front and rear sizes so used Vredestein Quatrac on the front and Kumho KH21 on the rear. Had no issues with the car after that, the tyres were quiet and comfortable and lasted well - were still on the car when I sold it last year.

Most PHers on here talk about age, as far as I have seen. Definitely replace.

Thanks for the replies.

Its a facelift 280 CDI if that makes a difference? Avantgarde model with square size wheels so 245/45/17 all round.

I think I will go for the Good Years Assymetric 6. Halfords have a good offer on and I can get another 8% discount via gift card scheme through work
Comes out just over £500 fitted
