Performance Tyre question
Discussion
I'm looking to find a high performance tyre with lot's grip for RWD car with 700+BHP. I'm curious what other people with various brands are running?
A quick search on google wasn’t really that helpful either.
I wont be tracking the car but I do want some extreme grip. Factors to consider
• Longevity – not bothered, I’m happy to forfeit tyre life for grip
• Road legal – obviously!
• Cold/wet conditions. I wouldn’t use the car in the wet anyway so not bothered about wet/cold capabilities
Some forums saying Cup 2 and some saying don't touch Cup 2 go with Trofeo R
thoughts and experiences welcome, thanks

If you don't care about wet weather performance then there are a load of road legal track tyres you can buy. I had TOYO R888 on one of my cars and they are nigh and day difference compared with ordinary road tyres.
I've got some Accelera 651 on the rear of one of my current cars but it's not really fast enough or sporty enough to warrant having them. They were left over from a project so I thought better to get some use out of them than let them sit getting old.

This is just my own personal bias speaking, but I've always preferred Michelin over Pirelli for high performance tyres and I've run 500hp RWD cars upto 950hp AWD cars using Michelin without issue, yet as a passenger in cars with equivalent Pirelli tyres, to me, they've felt less grippy, or they've made more squeal at lower cornering speeds etc.
I'm sure there will be folks along soon who are just as pro-Pirelli as I am pro-Michelin, and TBH I've not driven with a Cup 2 tyre (only been a passenger in a few Porsche with them being pushed hard) or the Trofeo R at all so I can't give any accurate info on those specific tyre.
Guess that makes this kind of worthless then, sorry

Never really rated Pirelli to be honest. From your profile I guess at the 720S? What do McLaren fit as OEM? Whatever that is, is what I would buy.
This makes a lot of sense.. Traction will always be difficult, although such a car has the good design of having the weight over the tyres, compared to a front engined vehicle etc
