Hello,
I need new tyres for the first time since getting my BMW 640. The current tyres are 245/45 ZRF 18 100 XL M + S

What does the M + S mean and is it important. I normally go to Blackcircles and they don’t appear to have these from any of their suppliers.

Cheers.

They're Marks & Spencer specials, and you should never exceed 40mph on them, HTH biggrin

Mud and snow. You can choose tyres without the M&S marking.

How long have you been using these tyres?

If they are indeed mud and snow or winter tyres then they will perform awfully in temps above 7c or around 9 months of the year or more depending on how north or south you are in the UK.

Can you get us a pic showing the tread.

Not true. Four season tyres are usually marked with M + S and will perform well all year round.

Cheers Mud and Snow…. Found is afterwards. I’ll get a photo later ! They’ve been on the car since purchased in July 22 and were fitted new at the time. I’m about 2 mm above the marker but some outside wear on the front left so will need to get tracking sorted afterwards.

They’ve performed well in all weathers but given my driving is at 20mph around the centre of Bristol and the car hasn’t been more than 30 miles from home they’ve worn well too.

If you go back decades, most tyres were similar to a mud and snow pattern, but were just ‘tyres’.
Winter tyres, as well as a more open and angled tread pattern, will have smaller zig-zag sipes for better ice grip, and the compound will be designed for colder weather. All-seasons will most likely not have as many, if any, smaller sipes, and will have a compound suited for all year round (at least in a more temperate climate that mainland Britain has).

Do you know if they're Run Flat?
