I've just been watching petrol ped video today with hyper racer x1 and the suspension obviously works but doesn't make sense to me and marketed as independent suspension but surely being fixed to the same spring and shock means they are not as if one wheel hits a bump its going to raise the other?

I am guessing there is some clever geometry in that jointed setup meaning what you suggest doesn't happen.

I haven't seen the car, but based on that picture it has pushrod suspension with both wheels driving that H shaped swash plate through bellcranks. The swash plate is located by a pivot in the middle at the bottom. Both wheels push against the spring + damper in bump. This part gives zero roll resistance. You could think of it as a beam axle with a spring damper in the middle.

The two outer connections resist roll. I imagine there are flexible bushes in the connection to the chassis. Those threaded sections allow the point of contact between the swash plate and the chassis to be moved towards and away from the swash plate's pivot point. In effect they are adjusting the roll stiffness.

There are some clever tricks you can play with this sort of arrangement to make the relationship between bump and roll differ from side to side ie that it will tend to pick up an inside wheel under power but not transfer weight under braking, but I can't see whether they're doing that here.

Interesting, obviously designed by someone far smarter than me smile. It just caught my eye as unusual
