I have a BMW Z4M Cpe and am looking at fitting a Big Brake Kit as OE BMW brakes are not up to track work.

I have narrowed the choice to AP or Stoptech, both do kits for the car.

Has anyone had experience with both kits preferably on a car weighing about 1400kg?

Also what pads would you recommend that will be up to hard track work, but also suitable for use legally on the road?

Hi, my car is a little heavier being an M5 but with the Stoptech ST40 fitted on 4 corners the car does stop and stop violently if you want/ need it too!
I'm running with Pagids RS29's and I've never had any fade.

Thanks, I have heard good things about Stoptech and Pagid pads.

Do your Pagid RS29 pads squeal at all with road driving?

Who did you buy your Stoptechs from?

Hi, sorry for the late reply, been away.

Anyhow the 29's will squeal a little when cold stopping but not to much compared to others I've used. I also got mine from the states sometime back but can't remember from who.
Remember that they are designed to work when there is pad transfer or blueing on the disks, when the disk returns to normal steel colour the braking efficiency is reduced, especially when cold. Though still better than standard. But a few big stops sorts all this out again.
Enjoy the 10 minute period of bedding them in

Being nosy, what stoptech kit did you get, ST40/60? On the front only or all round?

Cheers

ST60 Front with 355mm 2pc discs, ST40 Rear with 355mm 2pc discs, braided steel brake lines.

Unexpectedly I got some Stoptech fast road/track pads too with the BBK so will fit these initially as it looks unlikely I will be able to do a track day for a few months now (cash flow problem) I am interested to see how they hold up when I do track them anyway.

I already have the 29's but will now save those for next year (I don't mind a bit of squeal).

Car booked in to have kit fitted on Friday smile

Brakes are on... Bedding them in at the mo' but initial impression is excellent.... With each heat cycle as more pad transfer occurs they are getting better and better smile

Will report further on these once fully bedded in biggrin

Sounds good, I've heard good things about the stoptech pads for the road though nothing about them when used on the track.
Remember that you'll have to re-bed the pads in every once in a while to get the pad transfer back onto the discs as cold stopping removes this.
