Hi, basically the rear shocks are shot to st on my Golf. I have ordered new shocks and springs for the rear and shall do the fronts next month.

Is there anything else that I need? Am I going to need to replace any bushes at the same time?

I am aware that changing the top mounts would be a good idea so shall probably be ordering those aswell, I just wanted to check with the PH collective before I start taking things apart!

They're dampers, not 'shocks'.

Anyway, you might need new bushes, it depends what state they're in. If they're perished, or have too much play, or have collapsed, you'll need to replace them.

How many miles has the car done? How have you come to the conclusion that the rear suspension needs replacing?

In a nutshell, if it's done a lot of miles, say 150k plus, then yes, it's likely that the bushes will need replacing.

Depends on what country you're in.
Anyhow, "dampers" would not enable the almost poetic "shocks are shot to shit."
We get insufficient alliteration on PH as it is. Let us not cavil when someone has been thoughtful enough to offer some. smile

scratchchin Nope. I'm fairly sure the laws of physics apply everywhere.

hehe Tbh I couldn't think of the word for dampers, the only thing I could think of was shocks. Was a little bit of a rush job.

Cheers for the advice regarding the bushes. I was going to do those anyway, the question was aimed more at whether I should do the top mounts at the same time as everything else.

@SSM Its done 130k and the rear left damper is definately past it

the rear top mounts dont usually show too much wear ont hte golfs. on the front however, id recomment replacing the top mount bushes and the bearings they sit on as well wink

and the 'dampers' dampen the spring oscillations, not absorb shock shoot
