Does the compression of the helper spring (the soft one) in a coilover affect ride / shock efectiveness or is it practically irrelevant ?

The idea is that the rate of the helper spring is so low it makes virtually no difference to the final rate at all. All it's there to do is keep some tension in the system to stop the main spring jumping away from the spring platform at full droop.

And once it's flat it makes no difference.
