Stripped thread in brake caliper

Hello,

Posting this on behalf of a mate who phoned me up to tell me he'd stripped the bleed nipple thread on his Audi A6 front nearside brake caliper. I asked him if he was sure that the thread in the caliper was damaged and he said yes.

Apparently his car is quite rare (its an A6 V8 Quattro, I think he said its a 4.2) and a 'normal' A6 caliper doesn't fit.

He was talking about helicoiling the damaged thread, but surely the fluid will seep past the helicoil and his brakes will fail?

Anyone got any ideas? Is it just a case of replacing the caliper?

If he's got a 'good' engineer to hand then it should be perfectly possible to helicoil it as the seal is actually made by the 37/45 degree angled face on the bottom of the nipple.

Don't mess with it, change the caliper, it will probably be expensive, but what is your life worth ???

What a ridiculous response, why would a correctly installed heli-coil put his life at risk?

Best not mess around with calipers to change worn out brake pads, just buy a new car. It'll be expensive but what is your life worth?

If its an ally calliper the nipple will be fine in all probabilty.

Has he stripped all of it or just the top threads?
