Miss FB has a 2003, Mk4 Golf GTi which has a rear spoiler fitted above the rear window. This was supplied and fitted as an aftermarket accessory and before she took ownership of the car. I treat her car as I do mine and that's with proper handwashing/polishing using decent products.

The last time I washed the car I came to dry it and noticed this paintwork damage as pictured below - it's almost as if it appeared over a short period as I didn't notice it when cleaning the car 3 weeks prior. The photo shows one part of the spoiler but the same marks are across the whole thing.

What has caused it and how can I remove it? Thanks in advance.

Looks like its potentially micro blisters where the spoiler hasnt been prepared correctly and the paint is blistering from the underneath.

Great. I assume the only 'repair' is repainting the spoiler?

As said it looks like blistering to me, usually because of moisture present when painting.
Only repair would be a respray.

I do not claim to be an expert and am probably wrong

This happens on the Lupo spoilers too, caused by water ingress apparantley.

Even if you have it repainted it will probably return I'm afraid.
You see this a lot with aftermarket spoilers, but rarely with genuine ones.

That makes sense. Not sure if it's genuine or not - I'm 95% sure it is though

Your spoiler seems to have some form of Osmosis. It is the dread of every fiberglass boat owner that leaves the hull in the sea all year. Have a look at this for a repair guide. In boats, it is difficult to remove completely as the water is in the lay up. It may be different in your case as the blisters look shallow.

Note: I have not tried this repair myself (thankfully, never had to on my tub), so cannot vouch for it.
