Can anyone give a list of what must be covered with clingfilm before going in with light rinse, agitation/chemicals and final rinse? A friend is experienced in carrying out this work, but I'd like to get some feedback from you guys.

Hi,

I have had fantastic results in the past (mainly with BMW's) using the following method.

  • Run the engine till its nice and warm, and leave running.
  • Spray entire engine, bay and surrounding areas with TFR - Traffic Film Remover (general de-greasing agent)
  • Jet Wash until clean and all de-greaser has been removed.
  • Leave engine running until it appears dry, then take for a drive to remove any remaining water.
Now I know many people will say it's not a good idea to jet wash the engine, but with a few safety measures, I've never had a problem, and the engine and bay have looked like new afterwards.
Obviously you must avoid getting too much water in the electrics, so covering fuse boxes & ECU's etc up might be a good idea. You could use plastic bags and elastic bands.
Think about drainage as well, because the dirt, oil etc which comes off can leave quite a mess on the driveway!!

A quick silicone spray finish to the rubbers and plastics once dry really finish things off ;0)
  • And don't forget to re-grease all the required areas afterwards such as the bonnet catch and hinges!!
Good luck.
