Rivet Nut Gun - North London, can anyone help?
Discussion
Hi guys,
Big ask, but does anyone have access to a rivet nut gun which i could borrow/show up and use on Saturday/Sunday (perhaps Friday?). I literally need to install 1 riv-nut in my Elise
Happy to pay with actual money or beer etc
Really need to use one, but don't want to buy yet another tool I'm likely to use twice in a lifetime!
I'm based in East Finchley/Highgate in North London but happy to travel around London / Hertfordshire
Much appreciated

Easiest way to install one rivnut is to get a bolt of the appropriate size and thread a nut and washer onto it, then wind bolt into rivnut and position on panel. Now holding the bolt with one spanner undo the nut with another, the washer will push against the rivnut and should compress it.
A rivet gun with an assortment of rivets is £14.95 at Halfords. It will cost you more than that in petrol especially if you're offering to give the person money.
They are simple to use. You slide the rivet into the gun, push the loaded rivet into the hole drilled in the two parts and squeeze the handles together. If the rivet doesn't pop release your grip on the rivet gun handles, push the rivet pull wire into the tool again and then squeeze.
There will be a pop, (hence the term pop rivets) and your rivet is made. You will have a load of rivets left over for the next time your Lotus falls apart. Sorry couldn't resist that

Perfect, apart from the fact that the OP needs a riv nut gun. They are simple to use. I'll second this. Not worth the time getting special tools for one rivnut. gingerpaul said:
