Morning all,
I wonder if anyone can help? My dad has a 2001 Merc CLK Elegance and I parked it on a bollard before Christmas
The insurance excess is £350, but dad's concerned that they may say the car's not worth repairing and the may declare it as a write off. Its otherwise in excellent condition and runs really well.
The other option is to get it repaired ourselves, and this is where the real problem starts.
Does anyone know where (other than the rusty one on Ebay or Mercedes main dealer) I can get a Drivers side wing?
The cars his pride and joy and declaring it a write off is not an option!
I hope someone can give me some helpful advice or some pointers in the right direction.
TIA

If you can get a good used original wing then I'd go with that. Done that on a number of occasions - wings, doors, tailgate - with our own cars.
Why?
1. The underside will have full MB factory sealant/anti corrosion on it. A new one whether from MB or a pattern part if available won't & I do see a fair number of cars - of all makes - with rust around one wheel arch (I SMART repair professionally) & inspection or asking the owner usually reveals it's had a new wing which might have had a quick blast of body schutz if it's lucky.
2. You may get lucky & find one that's the same colour, although with silver & pale metallics getting one the right variant shade is going to be the issue. Dark colours not so much of an issue.
3. The paint already on the wing if sound makes a very good primer/undercoat.

Didn't think mercs of that era used any anti corrosion products! Why?
