Hi all.

What would people recommend for painting calipers red? I've seen everything from plastikote to hammerite etc used.

Has anyone brush painted them before? Obviously this saves having to remove them first.

Thanks for any advice.

I did a set years ago using Halfords calliper paint and a brush. They came out pretty well.

My BiL wanted his done when I cleaned his Q7 last year. He bought a red kit from Eurocarparts for me to use which came out alright (lots left over). I gave the calipers a good clean up with a wire wheel before hand painting in situ. I'd post pictures but Photobucket won't allow it now but hopefully you can get to the whole gallery to see the effect.

I've used Hammerite smooth many times for caliper and hub painting - very durable finish achieved.

I've not used their Red though, only silver and black so you may find you need 2-coats.

cheers

I used E-tech brake caliper paint on mine. I was replacing the discs and pads at the time, so took the opportunity to paint the calipers to prevent any rust down the line. They were pretty old, so needed some attention. Hit them with a rust removal gel, cleaned them up with brake cleaner, then brushed the E-tech paint over them. Came out really bright and still look okay. I should really have done a couple of coats, because one of the calipers is now fading, but should hopefully get a chance to do them again this summer.
