The best 50ft boat for the River Thames...
Discussion
I’m lucky enough to have been given a mooring on the Rivet Thames in Kingston; 3-miles from our house.
I’ve had a boat before and alway swore, never again UNLESS, it was moored close to home and could be used easily without me feeling we had to use it...
I’m looking for a boat, up to 50ft, that will be fun for occasional use, with friends for the odd sunny day trip on the Thames. Overnight boat not necessary and doesn’t have to be a 50kt machine!
I’m looking to spend up to 100k and want newish/modern looking ideally and low maintenance (!!!).
Any immediate suggestions as I’ve been looking and am stumped!
Thanks all

I can design you one, if you fancy a really unique project?
Errr. The link to your website doesn't work!If those were my specs I'd be going for something like this. But it doesn't meet the 'modern' part of your requirements.

You'd still have change from your 100K to do something about the Chintz interior too.

Never mind the modern bit I like that.https://www.apolloduck.com/boat.phtml?id=412641

Never seen a 'butler sink' in a boat before.

Don't forget to get one of those special hats boatists wear and maybe a pipe. They would be the first things I'd buy and I'd wear them whilst reading cabin cruiser weekly to get me in the mood for buying the proper boat.
Also it may be a good idea to invent some protocols such as people having to ask permission to come aboard and that they have to always call you Captain, Skipper or Skip. If you are really well built consider people having to call you Admiral. Practice all this at home with the Mrs as you don't want to have to confine her to the brig once you set sail.

Up to 100k and 50ft and not an overnight boat, that would be a hell of a big bowrider!
I'd be looking at something like a Princess 420 or maybe a sealine F43 but that might be a bit of a stretch on budget.

How about something along the lines of...

If the budget is large and you don't need the space for berths then perhaps go for style instead.
Some may argue a 5.7 petrol inboard is unnecessary for the Thames, but unless you have hired the Ditton Swift then all boats you see in that area can exceed the speed limit.

This would be perfect for the Thames... real classic lookshttps://www.apolloduck.com/boat.phtml?id=412641

Might be a tiny bit of overkill, but there’s no denying this one would certainly get the job done...

(Dealer does have rather more serious boats available if not to taste )

You might be able to save some cash by specifying fewer doormats.I'd be looking at something like a Princess 420 or maybe a sealine F43 but that might be a bit of a stretch on budget.

After reading your brief I'd strongly suggest fibreglass hull and shaft drive.
Best bet is a 10-20 year old Sea Ray, Four Winns or other US brands if modern looks and overnight capability is what you're after.
But if you're after a day boat, with little need to sleep over, then I'd suggest a Sea Ray 270 SLX bow rider or similar. That Chris Craft posted earlier is nice. They do a day cabin version and bow rider in various sizes, 22, 25, 28 to 36ft (my favourite). All are i/O sterndrives, mainly Penta's from memory.
Anyhow, nearly all modern bow riders are I/0 drives (bravo 3 etc..), more maintenance than shaft but you'll struggle to find shaft drive in that hull type.
I'd love to do some boating on the Thames, just to take in the industrial scenery. I was born in Leigh on Sea so it's on the bucket list to go from there right up the Thames as far as I can.
