More and more bodyshops are doing jobs under the smart repair umbrella when it reality it's a localised repair done in a booth....which is always preferable.
Very true if i priced it i would price just to do the top section of the bumper, somewhere in between the two prices

If a customer did not want a local repair done it would be bumper off complete strip out of all parts and double the price more than likely

Either way the paintwork would be guaranteed against failure.

This is a lot more than can be said for the supposed high tech manufacturer approved body shop Mitchell Inglis who did my front bumper. Two months later the clearcoat was peeling and then the paint started peeling as well; all from a small stone chip. Yet millions of cars on the road have stone chips with no peeling.

Sure, sometimes this can happen and paint can be a funny thing sometimes, but it's the after service which matters and Mitchell Inglis would not accept any responsibility for it despite independent experts stating otherwise. Even the written three year warranty I got was worthless. Manufacture approved... what a lot of crap.

Ended up going to a local bodyshop who sorted it and did a great job. After they found out how I'd been treated they kindly did it for free. I'll never go back to a manufacture approved bodyshop, in my opinion they are no different from taking your car to a main dealer for repair. Overpriced and poor skill levels.

Have a guy coming out on Tuesday to do it. Work and family restrictions really prevent me from leaving the car with a body shop for any period of time. The guy's been personally recommended by more than one person and his review on FB and Trust Pilot are excellent. He's giving us a 20% NHS discount and that coupled with the road tax I'm getting back on the X-Type, should mean I'm no more than about £50 out of pocket. He also offers a lifetime guarantee, so I guess we'll see.

I'll update the thread with before and after images once the work has been done.
