Always been a fan of rain x ( used to do 60k a year, years ago, so put a lot more effort into car maintenance). Have baby now so don’t have time for constant re application

What’s the stuff of choice now? I’m only asking as my parents and in laws always start getting stressed about Xmas gifts and I always end up with carplan shampoo and a tyre guage.

Is there something a bit more expensive that lasts a decent amount of time?

G technic. The 2 part one works well and lasts.

Rain Racer if you can find it, many years ago it could be bought in bulk and was used on things like cruise ship windows, glass shower screens and of course car windscreens. I've still got a little bit left but the burnishing gel went solid and is useless now.

If you don’t want to go to the full effort of a ceramic glass coating, angelwax h2go lasts a lot longer than rainx and seems to be a great compromise. Soft99/fusso also go a good rain repellent too.

Last winter I got one called ‘super glaco’. The packaging was all in Japanese so that’s all I know, but i found it better than rain x and it comes in an applicator (like a liquid shoe polish thing) so there is no wastage

I use rainx washer fluid these days quite a compromise but it seems to do the job above 40mph. The gtechnic I’ve previously used and was brilliant from 30mph but I couldn’t be arsed to keep coating every 6 months.

I haven't used RainX for years, since they started supporting Brake.

Last time around, I used the Meguiars sealant https://www.meguiars.co.uk/shop/glass-sealant and it did last pretty well through the winter; just about to do it again now, but would expect to top it up come the new year.

Depending on how often you wash your car you could try something like Autofinesse Aquacoat or Gyeon Wetcoat. Spray on, rinse off and dry no buffing involved. Be careful with Aquacoat as I have heard that it can leave marks like water spots that are hard to remove if the product is left on too long.

I started using Stoners but it can be a mate to get hold of for reasonable money in the U.K.

PIAA silicone wipers.

Expensive, but they are the best thing you'll ever buy for your car.

I’ve used Duxback for years (ever since a demo box followed me home) there’s a sweetspot to getting the application right so maybe try on a side/rear window first

This would be my 2nd recommendation, but as you say application isn't quite as straightforward as G1.

Chris

I’ve bit tried the G1 Chris, is it worth trying for latest addition (ahead of the free Duxback?)
I do like Gtechnic stuff, have some of the C4 trim restorer, haven’t got round to using it yet

If you have some Duxback for free then crack on with that, it performs well and lasts a decent time, just not as long as G1.

Also make sure you follow the instructions to the tee.

Cheers,

Chris
