Polish out light surface scratches by hand.

Autoglym super resin polish is good for this, it will take some out and will mask the rest pretty well.
A decent easy to use product for the novice that doesn’t want to get in too deep.
Does need a top coat to get the best longevity.
I’ve read that Auto finesse triple is pretty good too, both of these are available in Halfords.

SRP will take out zero defects even with a machine.A decent easy to use product for the novice that doesn’t want to get in too deep.

It is a good filler as you say and a good option for OP if he doesn’t want to machine polish, which is really the only practical solution to his issue.
