I technically have the money to pay the £500+ needed for a "pro" detailer but some of the work I have seen of lesser known detailers are seemingly just as good.

What would you do?

Also is being an "Auto finesse" approved detailer or being member of the professional valeters and detailers association mean anything?

Speaking generally, and I can only do this not seeing the work of both detailers in question, more experience costs more money and buys you better results while lowering the risk of something going wrong. You would also hope the more experienced detailer has approvals to use the best products which then justifies their increased cost to you.

Auto Finesse in my view are not great, some comments made lately by their social media account suggests someone there knows remarkably little about detailing. I would look elsewhere.

alot of hype and nonsense surrounding all the detailing stuff ....while its worth seeking out something better than the £40 gold package at the local wash , i wouldnt hunt down the latest instragram hero either , alot of them seem to spend more time taking photos than they do working

You will likely be better finding someone local by word of mouth/social media.
Some of the good ones don't advertise as they don't need to.

Problem with the franchise ones include being tied to the franchisors products & you've no idea whether the chap you get has been doing it for years or just finished what is usually a basic course.

As a wise man once said to me ...... you can make a cheap kitchen look good and you can make an expensive kitchen look crap. Its all about the fitter !

Means diddly squat imo;)

Find other car enthusiasts local to you who have had their car detailed and get recommendations based on that.

Cheers,

Chris

What is it that you're looking to get done?

Will be an office spod or newbie typed that out for IG. That’s the problem, your can’t buy experience. The guy who set AF up has been in the trade years, I can remember him from the meguiars forums in 2003(!) so he’s been around a while. It’s hard teaching people, all the ‘legacy’ detailers from the early 2000’s were already motor trade Valeters I think, so they just refined thier techniques.
