My headlights could do with smartening up, but where a good polish will get rid of the cloudiness on the outside, there's also a bit of cloudiness inside the sealed unit that an external polish obviously wouldn't get to.

Is there such a thing/has anyone had any experience of, a headlight refurb that would sort this?

I'm thinking the kind of thing where I post them off and they get taken apart and cleaned then returned to me?

I bought a kit by Turtlewax, £10. Worked a charm!

I need something that’ll get inside the sealed unit. Anything external only won’t work on the interior cloudiness.

Some car headlights can be dismantled, some don't. What car are we talking about?

Are you sure it’s on the inside, and not just a bit further in to the lens from the outside?
If it’s heavier oxidation, a wet sand through progressive grits from 600 (if it’s bad) to 3000, before Polishing will most likely sort it.

It’s an X150 XKR.

You can get micro fractures in the plastic on the inside, especially with HID units due to the heat, you cant get rid of that without fitting new lenses.

Now, I personally do not have experience with these. Maybe you should just do them from outside using some 3M or similar kit and see if this solves the issue. There is a thread here with very similar problems, they also suggest that polishing outside is enough. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk-xkr-x150-33/...

That's interesting, thank you, I hope I'm wrong and it's not on the inside. smile

I’ve just done the lights on my 350z where some of the tarnishing looked like it was inside but a light sand back with 1500 followed by 2000 grit wet and dry followed by a couple of polishes with a machine and then a coat of headlight sealer and they look good.
Before picture isn’t great to show how they were but here’s a before and after:

Found a better demonstration of before and after. As I say in person it looked as if some of it was inside but a sand sorted them out.

Looks fantastic.

Mine came up very well, but, there are some light "watermarks" that are definitely inside the unit.

As much as I search, there seems to be nobody who does a lenses-off headlight unit refurb. frown

I have just ordered the T-Cut kit after reading this thread. My 350z needs a little TLC on the headlights.

I've been contemplating it on a couple of my cars and a lot of the youtube vids show people gently heating the whole unit in an oven to soften the glue, then unsticking the lens from the rear of the unit... seems like something to try once you've found a source for replacement lights just in case!

Whatever method you use to remove the clouding in the plastic, the sun soon starts to do its worst again, what products do you use to protect the new finish from UV please folks.

Just out of interest i generally use White Diamond metal polish and then a wax polish to protect the lenses.
