Kit Car Cleaning - Advice
Discussion
Afternoon chaps. With my SVA date just 2 weeks away I want to be ready prepped for cleaning my new kit car.
Its Lambo Battleship Grey Gelcoat.
Wanted to know any particular cautions I should take when cleaning Gelcoat, decent products etc to use.
Secondly, any method people have used when cleaning simialr cars (Caterham, Westfields etc)I have no roof, Toneau, Windscreen, doors

Its tricky as Gel coats vary but are usualy quite hard, just use a good wash tec ie 2 buckets a wash mit and keep rinsing the mit, then dry with a good Microfiber towel, i find when cleaning cars with no hood/roof, it is best not to use a jet wash as they create alot of mist/spray and it gets every where, just use a jet wash (if you have one) on wheels arches and maybe along the lower part of the car where its grubby, other than that use the hose as you have more control over the flow and where its going, hopefully not inside lol
Hope that helps

The achilles heel of gelcoat is susceptibility to Ultra-Violet degradation.
In addition to the washing technique mentioned by James, you need a protectant which will actively 'shield' the GC from the rays...
Assuming the car doesn't need machine polishing, 303 Aerospace Protectant will give reliable UV protection

and Zaino sealants offer the same with the added advantage of serious durability, not needing to be applied as frequently and also jaw-dropping looks

If the car is garaged, your focus should be on good washing technique to keep swirl-marks away in the first place

This is my baby, just awaiting her SVA this Thursday!
I decided to give the DODO hard waxes a bash so have the cheapo 4 pot taster sitting in the garage. I also went for the DODO juice primelime cleaner (light version)
WHat DODO coulour/taste/flavour should I go for first on the waxes?
I used the red one on my mates Clio trophy and the results were brilliant and lasted all the way to ring, ten laps there, day a spa and then a drive back! bugs came straight off
