Recommendations for flat paint

The paintwork on the bonnet of my Chimaera looks a bit flat/dull compared to the rest of the bodywork.

I haven't tried any products for cleaning it yet but I was thinking along the lines of T-Cut or a clay bar?

Any recommendation on the best course of action?

Don't use T-Cut. It's too harsh and doesn't break down properly.

If your paint is feeling rough I'd suggest using the claybar. This will remove bonded contamination leaving a smooth surface.

You can then try hand polishing, even something like Scratch X with a german style applicator should help bring back the finish.

Obviously after that you would need to seal the paint otherwise it won't be long before it's back to how it was.

You will need a decent polish to help restore the paint. Autoglym SRP is pretty good to begin with, but there are many different brands available and some work better with a machine polisher (Porter Cable and G220) than by hand.

It may be a case of trial and error but SRP is a good start followed by some decent wax.

agree, give the tcut a miss. clay and polish the whole car, not just the bonnet. a good clay to start with is the megs kits available from most high street motorfactors.

menzerna intensive polish worked with the white side of a german applictor pad is a great combo. if you don;t want to spend that much then the ag srp mentioned above is also good. only trouble with the ag srp is it's very chalky. you'll be finding polish dust for ages.
