Hi,

I am looking for a good bodyshop that can respray a 1994 XJ6 for an elderly relative at a reasonable price.

No major body work repairs are required except for a 3" rust patch on the n/s rear wheelarch.

Car has usual stone chips and odd scab, but overall is in good condition.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks.

Good and cheap very rarely go together

very true!

not looking for cheap just VFM!

insurance work quote on our XJR for a simple bumper scrap has ruled out any chance of main dealer and using the Du Pont paint system the XJ Sport was originally sprayed with!

Sounds like you don't need a respray at all - for small/medium area repairs, as the acronym suggests, specialist SMART repair techniques would be suitable. Possibly worth checking for personal recommendations in the appropriate regional forum. Many SMART repairers have access to DuPont tinting for their paint matching technology, and costs are likely to be far below a main dealer going-through-insurance quote. Some operations specialise in just offering small/medium repairs, and some full-service bodyshops will offer in-house SMART repair (although those who originally declared the new techniques and technologies to be Satan incarnate may refer to it as an "Express Paint Line" ).

It wouldn't be appropriate for me to recommend any one brand or network - and it's common knowledge that in a skilled trade like refinishing the quality varies greatly from technician to technician so personal recommendations of the actual individual who'd be doing the work are definitely the way forward.

Thanks Anatol for the suggestion.

I think bodywork marking / chips have possibly gone too far to do localised repairs and two panels have lacquer peeling.

We took this car on the Jag owners run to Brighton two years ago and as she has the latter X308 bumpers on her, she did look good but another couple of years of good use has taken its toll!
