Have just bought a rear lip spoiler for my S-Type Jag which I intend painting myself. I know what colour basecoat to use, ie, MDZ, Platinum but where on earth can I find out what colour primer to use?

Normally I would have looked in Halfords as they normally give this information in their colour catalogue but they do not list or stock any paint for Jags.

Thanks

Well that's the choice, but which one?

The final shade will be different with those 2 primers.

Not necessarily, if you're doing it properly.

You should apply sufficient colour that the primer has no effect whatsoever on the final tint. The colour of primer you pick will change how much paint is required to achieve that, but (with rare exceptions of extremely low-hiding pigments, such as trying to cover black primer with yellow or red) provided you don't exceed the maximum film build the paint can support, you'll get there eventually with any colour primer.

As a rough guide, for metallics, choose a primer of approximately the same tone or slightly darker than the final colour. If you've had paint professionally mixed, the mixing system should indicate what tone of grey primer is most appropriate.
