can you dye cloth seats? and what products are out there.

I have a set of grey cloth seats i want to be plain black, i thought about Auto Glym carpet dye but that leaves a crispy feel to the carpets so it would probably stuff the seats.

Any ideas. I need a dye that will be non transferable to clothes obviously

Could be wrong, but I suspect you'll struggle to dye seating fabric, especially with the intention of having no transfer back onto clothes short of a couple of days good drying.

the seats i have i can remove the cloth covers so i could wash them in a machine with a desired dye, i just need to know if whatever dye is out there isn't going to transfer to clothes. thanks for the input though mate.

It's whether the fabric lends itself to dyes on the open market, that'll dictate if they stay fixed, or bleed.
Sorry, can't think of anything to try or where to look.
If I do, I'll throw it up here.

i emailed a guy on ebay and he said the seats have to be wool or nylon, now i know they aren't wool but as for nylon i havent a clue, owuld there be a label on one of the covers? like a jumper LOL or don't seats carry this sort of thing? i doubt they are nylon though, just normal cloth. the seats are recaros from a ford escort

Ah, well in that case, you'd be best to spend 5-10 mins on the phone with Recaro, who'd be in a much better position to advise on material and possibility of redying to another colour.
