Rough paintwork

Just bought myself a '07 Renault Clio, I polished it as soon as I collected it from the dealer and noticed the paint feels rough. The paintwork looks glossy but feels like a satin paint finish when you touch it, along with some fine dust as well.

Any recommendations on what action to take to improve the finish of the paintwork?

As you've just bought it take it back.

Hiya mate, sounds like your car could do with claying, this removes the bonded contaminants on your cars paintwork so its not rough so it will be smooth as glass, then i would suggest polishing it then waxing so your car is protected

Dont waste your time trying to clay it, just take it back. It may be something as easy as tree sap, or it could be industrial overspray. If you bought from a dealer, they'll have the expertise to clay/mop/whatever.

Try claying a small area, if the same take it back. I'd avoid a dealer touching paintwork as much as I possibly could! Claying made the world of difference to my brand new car!

Thanks for the advice, I've ordered myself an Autoglym clay kit and some extra gloss protection to try and sort the paint out. Don't really want to send the car back to the dealer. They apparently cleaned it before I picked it up, their standards are a lot lower than mine.

Fair comment, obviously only a "detailer" can use a claybar & a mechanical polisher.
In all honesty though, why should you as the purchaser be expected to remedy any paint faults? If you attempt to fix the problem and burn through or scorch the paint, you cant then take the car back and complain. If, however, you bought it privately, take your time and be careful!

I would say, from 100% consistant experience that dealers don't know know how to use a rotary/pc correctly. Mind you, not all 'detailers' do either...
