surface rust

Afternoon all

I need to take care of some surface rust patches on swmbo`s fiesta.I am planning on doing it in the following way by firstly rubbing down to remove the rust then mask off and prime then finish off with a coat of colour matched spray.

Should I be doing anything different ?

Cant you get special anti rust primers? maybe worth looking into?
