As the owner of a '98 L/R Discovery I'm going to have to get a welder sooner rather than later. They're forecasting rain for Friday.

Are the Machine Mart Clarke ones any good for car body repairs or would I be better going to a specialist supplier? Don't want to break the bank but don't want a P.O.S either.

thought about Ebay but not sure I fancy a s/h welder.

if you go to the mig wleding forum there will be loads of help

I have like many others used the clarke units and they are good. I use a 151TE converted to run rental bottles as disposables last about 11 mins worth of welding.

I've got the 151EN. Also converted to large BOC bottle. Currently CO2 but when this one runs out I'm going to switch to Argoshield.
I have tried it in its No Gas mode with fluxed wire, but its very smoky & needs the weld to be cleaned of slag. Might be of use if you're having to weld in a gale but I've always used it with gas.
Had it for several years, never had a problem with it & I can definitely say its very good at welding Land Rovers!yes

Bodywork is much better with argonshield or argon c02 mix far nicer welds than with just co2 or gasless
