So I test drove this exact car yesterday on the basis of maybe getting a brand new one:

Never had a new car before and we get a corporate deal on these worth about $6-7k off so c.$78-80k new.

Now hold with me here. It's clearly too heavy, it's steering is way too light (the worst point and unfortunately probably the most important) but, but, for Perth roads 99% of the time it's perfect.

Interior is just lovely, feels so modern and more interesting than a 4 series and is stacked with equipment. Cooled seats are just a dream.

Ride was very good, handled reasonably and had a lovely sound when pushed.

I also think it looks ace.

I must admit very impressed in the limited drive.

There are very few sub $100k brand new cars that are appealing but this one of them.

Nice.

I like the blue, which is fortunate because in April SWMBO's new Cruze arrives - it is blue. Then in May my new SS wagon arrives - it is also blue.

In December I got a red wagon, and she got a red Cruze.

Someone in company cars is having a laugh.

In other news, now that the traffic has returned to normal (i.e. st) the wagon's fuel use has jumped to around 11.5 l/100km. Fortunately fuel is cheap just now, and I like the noise it makes, otherwise I'd be ordering an SV6.

See if you can get good (heat resistant) velcro instead. Makes life a little easier in certain circumstances.
Good idea for removal when cleaning. But I don't want the plate to stick too far out etc.
Bibbs is forward thinking for when the petrol prices get too high, and you might want to fill up and run!

hehe

Hmm, interesting. Anyone know where 6-12 month old, ex-lease/company cars like this go to be moved on? Are drivers ever offered them at decent prices?? And 11.5 l/100km would be like going Diesel after the Mazda and the Volvo.

Managed to get my CAMS licence in a week, so went off to a Porsche Owners Club event the other weekend.

Didn't come last, and managed to get some okay camera footage for me to now study and learn my lines better.

Was good fun, but now looking at new disks and some pads with a bit less fade.

Woah there! So after about 2-3 years I am back on the forum, mostly because my last place of work blocked PH and my new place doesn't.... a quick scan of the top 10 topics says not much has changed lol!

I am still driving the SSV, has had a VCM OTR, catback and tune since then but other than that not a lot to report...ooh apart from a new kid and sold boat...

What did I miss?!

Welcome back TAS beer

What have you missed? Not much, it seems a bit quieter these days, but I'm at least as guilty of that as others. The WA chapter seems a lot more active than us but that's not saying much.

Last Sunday my drive contained 7.8 litres and 12 cylinders.

This morning it only has 5.2 litres and 10 cylinders.

Swapped them both over during the week: SS to Calais V6, SRi to SRi Z.

So, is there some free supply of Holdens available? laugh

Damn! You quoted my post before I realised the Cruze is a 1.6 not a 1.4 and went back and fixed it biggrin

Not free unfortunately: just getting changed over every 6 months at the moment (although I did have to ask to get the SS swapped because it was over 10k km and there was no sign of the replacement).

I still liked the VF Calais rental I had in Adelaide a while back. Could never justify owning a car that big, but it rode/handled and performed really well for the money. Also returned 9.9L/100km over 1200km of mixed city/country driving...

A bit of me wants a VF SS Redline...

So how does that work? That's a great deal so I can only presume you work Holden. Well done!

Hmm, shame you couldn't have punted the SS this way... Anyway, whatever you do don't mention anything that might make the Calais V6 seem in any way better to the SS. Ta biggrin

Company lease car. And yes I do (although the future looks a bit uncertain).

TBH you wouldn’t have wanted it - quote a few stone chips and it was due a service.

The Calais is a nice relaxing cruiser and nowhere near as anti-social as the SS. In the SS even stop start traffic was fun: stick it in manual mode, leave it in second, and let the bi-modals crackle and pop all the way down Citylink at rush hour evil

If you are interested in one then PM me with what you are after and I can see what is available - V8s are a bit thin on the ground though.

Not a huge fan of the black wheels but they were a bargain. Added the brakes this week, damn they are squeaky.
The exhaust noise is addictive especially when it drops back a gear.

It's not the same watching Le Mans on the TV. .. :-(

At least the rain outside isn't as bad as a couple of weekends ago. Here in Coffs we lost 2 boats in the marina. Ironically the harbour wall improvements were due to start on the Monday, the boats sunk that weekend.
