Umwelt purchase confusion

I want to buy the green Umwelt sticker for the first time ,I've driven in cities before without one but don't feel like risking it

any more.

Firstly how much is it ?.....As I have seen quite different prices on various sites ,ranging from 8E to 18 or 32.

The .org site seems to only cater for German registered vehicles ,so which one is the site to use and trust for security.

You can't buy it, it's not on sale. If it's being offered on any website then it's a fraud!!!!
You have to go through the TüV/ASU, when your vehicle has passed AND you have all the relative ORIGINAL car papers then you should get one (assuming you've a GB reg car). If it's a german reg, then you should have one from your car dealer..... or perhpas try a german car dealer first!?!?!?!?

That's not the answer I have was expecting,or hoping for.

I did a search and others seem to have bought one before but looks like I will go without again as going to a TUV place might show up my complete lack of German.

I think we've both got the wrong end of the stick!
I have spoken to my local VW dealer. Provided you have the vehicle paperwork, they would be happy to issue one of the round, red, yellow or green (nos 2,3 and 4) of the exhaust particulate stickers (falsely known as the "Umwelplakette") for a minor fee.....
I assume that your car type has a dealer network in Germany?!?!

BTW I doubt if any german cop or plastic cop will issue a fine to someone with a foreign plate, as it cannot be chased (under the €90,- minimum limit for EU collections of road fines, which is why the frogs have set their fines on their stickers at €90,- plus fees!.)
AND very few towns have the manpower to run checks on cars without such a sticker........ perhaps with the exception of Stuttgart where the Greens hold a majority in the town council.......

That doesn't match my experience. A few years ago I borrowed a car for a few days, and got a fine for this offence in Frankfurt. The car had a Dutch registration.

The car didn't have a sticker (although it was eligible for a green one, but stupidly I thought I'd risk it) and when parked in the street, a local Ordnungsamt person noticed it and issued a hefty fine. The fine did arrive a few weeks later in NL...

I second that.

There is also ZERO policing of Umweltplaketten in moving traffic. You might get fined by a parking warden when parked where the public can access your car, but that is that. If you decide for your car to stay in a hotel car park, well...

This also means that you could easily drive into a german Umweltzone, head to a car dealer (of your make) or a TÜV or a DEKRA station and simply obtain an Umweltplakette. I have seen many foreign registered vehicles with german Umweltplaketten. The usual price is 5 Euros.

To be honest, I doubt you'd have a problem without one particularly with a short visit but I was there a while so I thought 6euros was probably worth it!

A bit late, but, most of my cars are registered in Britain, although I spend a lot of time in Germany.

I just go to the DEKRA place with my UK documents and I get a green sticker with a 4 on it, for 5€.

I've done that with four cars, at least. No problems. Maybe luck?

I drove in & around Stuttgart last year & completely forgot about this, but nothing bad happened. I’m doing it again next year & think I ought to be better prepared.
