This is why i have always just traded in. I know its not financially smart but the amount of nonsense you have to deal with trying to sell private is just not worth it for me. I have a shed full of spare parts for cars i no longer own for the same reason. Trying to sell them somehow attracts the most crazy people known to man wanting to come round my house for a look.

I put up an 2007 Lexus GS430 up at $21000 and it sold in a week.

However, when I put up a 2012 CLS500 FMBSH but with 110000kms, it was very painful. Lots of calls, lots of low-ball offers.

One guy called me and he was on the phone for 30 minutes trying to get me to shift a few grand.

I had it up for $42K and I was p/x-ing at $38K. I told the guy I'd take $40K (the car was in excellent condition and this was the lowest priced in the country). He kept asking if I'd take $39K. In the end I couldn't be arsed to deal with him and I told him I will just put it in to the dealers. I said to him that if it was really that important to him to get that extra bit of money of a really cheap car, then go talk to the dealer (because I didn't want to waste my time speaking to him any more).

Makes sense. It's worth it to not have a plonker like him show up on your doorstep a month later because the battery failed and he wants his money back.

When I was selling a Ferrari I had a real estate sales guy turn up in an E46 SMG M3 convertible who tried to tell me I could drive his car if I let him drive mine and if he liked it he was due a bonus in a couple of months!
I had a similar thing with a bloke in a roll caged 996 TT.
Both seemed genuinely surprised when I refused!

It does seem more painful selling cars in Aus compared to the UK and I thought that was quite painful until now.

I am selling my 2nd weekend car, an MX5 NB 10th Anniversary with a few minor modifications/improvements.

So far I have been asked if I want to swap for an X5, offered a ‘cash’ offer of $2.5k less than the asking price and been offered a jet ski in PX.

I thought selling a car was bad, selling a house is worse ..

No luck mate? Are many even viewing?

Its crazy in a way as money has never been so cheap and although there isnt much price growth you could build a fair bit of equity quickly with a rapid overpayment plan, so i would think its actually decent time to buy a house.

Yup, except it seems to be really hard to get a lone. My neighbour just borrowed 60k for an Amarok to replace his van. He said it was a nightmare getting the loan approved, and not just because he is self employed.

Money is cheap but hard to get!

Not even a nibble for mine, put it up in Feb. I took it off the market for 2 months and it's just gone back on with a price drop.

getting 1 or 2 people each weekend.

But the wife's sold in 6 weeks, and all the places I want to move into sell in a matter of weeks too.

Well I've had to dabble into the murky world of Facebook sales this week.

So far, not too bad.

Sold a washing machine. Left it outside and the guy transfered the cash.

Just sold a bed/sofa/tv stand with no bother. Paid cash, they'll collect later in the week.

Just need to sell the other stuff now (like the house they are in).

A couple of months ago I put my GT3 on the market at a very competitive price (cheapest by $10K) and all I got were guys offering me $~30K less than my asking price without wanting to look at the car. When I bemusingly said no they got pissed off. I pulled it off the market and will have another go before Christmas.

Sideboard, coffe table & dining table went this weekend. No real haggling (they ask, I say no), pickup when they say they will.

Think the fact I'm selling expensive stuff for buttons helps.

Sofa and TV table to go.

Which GT3?
997?
Cheap one at dealer now, albeit with higher mileage.

I’ve just put Mrs PB’s Golf on Carsales after getting a derisory trade-in offer. One offer within 4 hours, about 15% below asking, though first query was asking what’s my lowest price...

Hopefully one a bit closer within the next week or so, otherwise I’ll come back to that one, not going to spend a lot of time on it if I don’t have to.

See, I reckon I’m doing this all wrong. The Golf went on Carsales Monday afternoon, and this morning I received a deposit, transferred direct, from a bloke in Port Mac who is flying down next week to collect, having agreed on the phone to buy it for 96% of the asking price.

And if he doesn’t turn up, I’ve got two others also interested, one of whom has already made that low offer.

The thing I’m really stumped with though, is that I don’t yet have a replacement. I know, schoolboy error...

That's my pet hate - "whats your lowest asking price"...

Just irks me from the outset - lazy negotiating! :P

Well, the Port Mac dude not only paid in full before setting off for Sydney to collect the car, but only sat in the drivers seat for the first time as I was walking away having completed the transfer papers. Got a note to say he’d made it home and loves the car.

The car itself gave me a few things to think about during the week - both the low speed fan and the battery chose this time to quit, and the CEL came on necessitating another call out to find out what it was and to clear the code.

So 10 days from deciding to sell to waving goodbye. Not bad in my book.

I was offered land out back of Bourke for my Jag XF. Was very amusing. Gumtree for the laughs.

I’ve got the 928 up for sale at the mo - not sure if it’s the car or the current state of the world, but there are some nutters and dreamers out there...
