How to keep number / licence plate to keep as memento?

We have been over here in Australia from the UK for almost 12 months and its time for us to start getting things together to head back. What we would really like is to keep the licence plates of the car as a bit of a keep sake (rego in QLD), the rego its self is up a few days after we leave the country but obviously will need to be sold before we leave.
Is there a way that we are able to keep the plates? and the process to do this or at least get a set of plates that are replica to the ones we had on the car?

Pretty sure you could just get some show plates made up, although probably wouldn’t be allowed to have the QLD stamping.

Alternatively, tell Queensland Roads they have been stolen, pay a couple of $ and the car will get issued with new ones
