Dropped the car off at the shipping guys today in London.
It's on its way to Adelaide.
Cost: £2050 which includes shipping / customs and handling both ends / marine insurance.
Still to pay: Oz Import duties / Sales tax / LCT / GST

i don't know who you've used Simon, but as our stuff is in a 40 ft container it is costing £ 300 to add our car to the shipment. that is for the cost of insurance only as our total shipment (with packing, loading, unloading, unpacking) is around £ 7.5K.
sure seems a lot man, did you RO/RO or container?

I can sense an anxiety trip taking place as the ship pulls into Sydney. Think I can see the Dockers in Singapore right now tearing round the container stacks practicing their handbrake turns.

nah -- they'll never figure out the starting sequence Stv w/o the instructions. oh d4mn, i just looked at the loading video and noticed my wife put them on the windscreen

right -- time for some more Aussie wine tonight then after an excellent steak

Stv, those Noble Dealers you mention in Sydney I'am afraid do not exist. The last three Nobles that where sold in Australia where from the Rover group.Who were the importers . They had a liquidation sale late last year . The three cars were sold with out registration as they did not meet A.D.R ( Australian Design Rules ) You may want to contact Zagame in Victoria for an more information. As to where the cars are now there has been no news since the sale. They may not even be in the country.

Will do George. I kinda thought that as I spoke to Noble a couple of days ago, though Noble still advertise the Sydney dealers on their website. The ADR might give me a problem but will speak to as many of the informed as I can. Application to DOTARS is'nt till September so I've got a bit of time. Will contact Zagame and see if they can give me some pointers. Cheers George !

from personal experience -- do your DOTARS form giving yourself 2 months lead. i gave myself 1 month, and they needed more docos from me than just what was requested.

AND they wanted to see copies of my Bank Account statement, Visa and Tenancy Agreement, so there's some dancing for you to do.

Providing you follow what we're outlining you'll be like me -- I FINALLY GET MY CAR THIS FRIDAY, i can't wait!!!!!

Will do Steve-B. The more info I have the more chance I have of a successful outcome. Not long finished the Residency Visa process and the experience there was the more accurate info you supplied the more likely you got the approval. I just got some good advice from the guy who done the inspections on the original 3 Nobles mentioned earlier,a guy in Vic. Looking good so far. Think it will cost a packet though.....but its a passion, is'nt it.

have found insurance through shannons to be painless (except the wallet bit) but have you looked at SEVs (specialist & enthusiast vehicle scheeme ) http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/ the caterham & TVR would be easy , from what I've heard lots have had specialist and Kits passed as well.

Yes. Have looked at SEVs and also the RAW route. Will try the most obvious first and maybe fallback on the other two. But info recieved from the guy in Vic suggests one or two issues but nothing serious. Will find out for sure though around the back end of the year.

I understand the reggos are a tad different for each state so I'll be contacting the Vehicle Inspection people in Adalaide next, see what they say. Cant apply for DOTARS till September.

you're really better off asking on www.ozclubbies.com than calling the local RTA lads. RTA will just give you chapter&verse of the regos, where the locals that i hang out with on Ozcclubbies have been there, done that......THEN call the state RTA once you've got your facts/ducks in a row

i am pleased to say that the car is now safely tucked into our garage
in Cremorne, north Sydney harbour.

battery after 2+ months was almost drained, but the starter works.
battery now on charger.
so the car has now made a more than 18,000 mile sea journey. no rust,
mould, etc as well as all contents still in the car. made note to self to remove radar
detector, as that's an immediate ban here

Kilometer speedo is now installed in the car as well. insurance done.
just gub'mnt inspections and then it'll have an Oz plate.

I'm just about there as well. Picked my car up from Port Adelaide a couple of weeks back. I've got the dreaded roadworthy inspection at Regency Park (SA) on Tuesday. I actually bought a kph only speedo in readiness for the Oz regulations, but when I enquired about SA requirements they said I could keep the dual speedo.

I'm dreading Tuesday...

Simon that is one beautiful bit of kit you got there mate...!!

I'm reasonably well informed that iif you leave a crate or two of lager on the pax seat the inspection will be allright

seriously though, make sure you've had a good night sleep, and don't try to debate points with emotion i'm informed is the way to go. at the end of the day, the ADRs exist, but reasonable discussion with the inspectors ususally wins over....

Hello, just wondering if there is any modifications that needed to be done to your boxster to get it Australian compliant as I am thinking of doing the same thing?

Not arguing at all when they point out something a little dodge is good imo. They can let it go through with a recommendation but if they felt you were telling them how to do their jobs it might bite you on the arse!
