Lotus:- The End?

Ah, OK, so your comparing the most expencive version of the Cayman with the cheapest Exige....
No, I was comparing two cars as tested:Carrera S 1:24.65 - 6th place overall, 81K base price and
Exige S 1:24.75 - 3rd place overall, 52K base price.
That's the base price for the respective models - if you want I can price up the most expensive version of the 911. There don't seem to be many options on the Exige according to Lotus' site, so it is what it is.
The comparison between the Exige and Cayman R seems to be a much closer match - price and speed. Which leaves the question, why buy a Carrera S?

Because it's a great GT car, not a track day car, and it's also a 2+2 of sorts. It's also got a less reward weight distribution than an Evora.
and you can buy one out of the showroom, with a 3 year proper warranty, build quality and an interior.point here is the Exige is supposed to be a hard-core track car being whipped by a soft GT road car.

Sorry, which car are you suggesting is 'whipping' the Exige?point here is the Exige is supposed to be a hard-core track car being whipped by a soft GT road car.
I wasn't aware that the new Exige was still a hard-core track car - I thought the Lotus community were complaining about how soft it had become? From the Top Gear review:

But the feeling at Lotus was that the Exige needed to change tack, to become more habitable, to be an everyday-feasible car..
A little update, as I was at the factory yesterday:
There are Exige S's going out of the door, lots of them (very nice they look too)
160 people are starting work there in the coming weeks as they move to a double shift to complete 80 cars per week (instead of 25).
All cars that are built have a customer, so the above news sounds positive.
The new factory and Esprit are on hold but not dead. The post Bahar strategy seems to be to focus a bit more on building the current 3 models well and meeting demand, then reviewing the Esprit project
The Esprit has a new hall being built for it, whilst this is on hold mid way through being built - it looks like hopefully being a temporary situation. Time will tell as the Exige S orders start coming through I guess...
It seems like a sensible strategy to me, I hope it works out.

Lotus need to decide what the Exige S is then... a track toy or a serious road car?
Why is that a black and white thing? The Elise isn't as much of a track toy as a Caterham or Radical, but that didn't hurt it. For that matter what is a 'serious road car'????Clearly it's doing something right to get an overall rank that high in Autocar's tests.
you have confirmed the info i had last week ... the question now is; is the exige finally a genuinely quick car or not?
there are enough test cars about silver, ms green, sienna brown. why arnt these cars with the rags setting benchmarks? having to wait a year or so for good product for me isn't a problem, if the product isn't what its supposed to be, then that's a huge problem.

just become a manager at Lotus, they all seem to get Evora company cars..
Its not unusual for a Management grade to have a company car or car allowance, it is standard practise in many industries to get a company car or a car allowance but these are not free, they all part of a employees package they come at a cost and from a personal tax perspective its a benefit in kind. Jaguar provide Jaguar's to their management
Fords provide Fords to thier management
Vauxhall provide Vauxhall's to theirs
So it would be weird if Lotus did not provide a Lotus to their management.
However I did read that with recent budget cuts Lotus was not going to renew management cars .
Another common practise is that employees can purchase a car at a discount I would assume that this is true at Lotus as well.
