But it's quite plain to see.... you aren't. You're just ignorant! Now go and play with your Corgi toys.

HungryJim you still haven't answered the many requests of what you drive? Surely a "true lotus enthusiast" is someone that either owns or has owned a Lotus.

Goldman may I suggest that the Kent dealer is a lot better than the Chrysler Garage in Leicester (which shall remain nameless) that took three attempts to fit an exhaust and ended up with me under the car in their service area checking it for leaks. Or the time they fitted the steering wheel 30degrees off centre or the time they fitted the new roof wrong or the time..... In fact every time my car went for a service there I had to take it back because they had done something wrong. I even got a letter of appology and a day on the Hethel track from Lotus after I wrote to them about the "wonderful" service I had.

What about the other Lotus specialist garage I went to that did in fairness a good service but boy were they expensive (plus I feel that sometimes they did things which weren't necessary eg brakes done a service early etc.) and when it came to me selling the car were less than fair IMHO. (I traded it in at another non-specialist garage in the end)

My friend on the other hand that had a Proton and chucked loads of miles on it, never had a cause to complain about anything in the 5+ years she owned it. She also bought the car because it was the best salesperson that she had ever experienced.

In the USA we mix a lot of cars in dealers. I believe it's called bait and switch. They lure people in to see the neat new sports car that the family guys can't afford or for some reason they can't have it. Then the salesman walks over and says something like "if this doesn't fit your requirements how about this sporty sedan that can fit the family"
What the heck is a Proton anyways. I don't think they sell them in the states.

A proton is a subatomic particle found in the nucleus of every atom. The particle has a positive electrical charge, equal and opposite to that of the electron. If isolated, a single proton would have a mass of only 1.673 x 10 -27 kilogram, just slightly less than the mass of a neutron.

Oh you mean the car? Just think of Proton as a reseller of old Mitsubishi models that have been tweaked and modernised.

I'm not surprised you haven't heard of them... actually most Americans haven't seemed to have heard of most of the manufacturers over here. I remember mentioning several large names including Lamborghini and Lotus and this Texan guy drew a blank. Don't get out much, apart from hearding the cattle in, I suppose!!

You are right about most not knowing much about cars made there. I think the only reason some know about cars from the UK is that most of companies were for sale at one time or another and are owned by entities outside of the UK. In the USA we have heard of Proton but do not really know what they look like. Just wondered if they sold them here under a different name. Some cars would not do well in the USA under the names sold in the UK.

Same applies the other way round. In America a probe is something you send into space (good name for a car). In the UK a probe is something thats stuck up your @rse Classic example of bad car naming well done Ford.

Well even in the USA we make fun of the Probe. Like I would even consider driving a Probe. Like imagine someone shouting out "hey nice Probe" Most of us here are fairly image driven, I don't think something like the Picnic or anything simliar sounding name would do well here at all. Too feminine. Heck most have trouble even pronouncing Elan and Esprit.
