Looks good, but so far not enough of a step from the Evora to make me immediately think of swapping my 20 year old Ferrari for one.

The test drives and seeing them in the flesh may change my mind.

Ah right, I did wonder when I posted that.

Good for the UK, make that 95k euro for the 4-pot and 130k euro for the V6 in NL, maybe even higher. weeping

So the V6 is still manual/IPS? Seems a missed opportunity not to pair the V6 with DCT and actually be a mini supercar. I’m guessing we’ll see a hot version sadly be the 4 pot instead? Maybe 460/470 Cup with i4 + DCT.

Looks fantastic for the money, but the performance appears to be on the normal side, to interest the likes of me it would need to be 500 bhp and capable of at least an 11 second quarter mile and 3 second 0-60.

Isn't the 4 cylinder going to sound poor? I'm guessing the performance will be around 12.5 / 13 seconds quarter mile and 4.5 0-60, which is slow by today's standards and for the looks of the car would feel dreadfully slow.

I'm hoping after year one they may release a version with the AMG GT 4.0 V8 with DCT, I would sign up for that, that would have the performance and sound to match the looks but probably be around £100k.

I think the looks will sell the car, but not to people looking for performance.

That seems excellent value when contrast to £100k V6 Exiges that are being phased out to be honest. Apples and oranges you can argue and depends which side of the purest fence you sit. As much as the high power Exiges were GT3 performance worthy as a dedicated toy, for many £100k for a toy is hard to justify whereas £75k - £85k on a car useable both on track and on road with little compromise sounds a more attractive financial predicament for many (me included).

I have a huge amount of time for the Exige and indeed still haven't ruled one out. However, it would have to be a £50k or below one; any more than that and as a Sunday plaything its too much tied up in a car that rarely gets used. Not only that, but if I were to spend even £60k ish on a V6 Exige, I couldn't spend 95% of my time driving a £5k shed leaving my £60k investment parked up in the garage. So it means spending £60k + a decent daily. Or £75k - £80k on an all year round useable, less compromised Emira. As many decide when they buy Porsche.

I think the AMG engine in the A45 sounds pretty decent, although perhaps a little modern day false, but that is the way of the modern world.

As for performance, well until the big power last Exiges like yours, Lotus was never truly about that straight line nuts performance so think the figures banded around are what one tends to expect of a Lotus. Quick enough but all about the bends. If you compare it to the Alpine and Caymans etc then its there or thereabouts. I think the trouble is comparing this just after the last line of mega performance Exiges, the likes of which Lotus haven't really produced before which offer batst crazy performance in both straight lines and in the bends, the likes of which the company have never really touted before as a selling point.

Lotus performance has never been about the numbers.

Clearly the benchmark for this car at the weight, power and price is the GT4, and nobody thinks those are slow or need 500bhp.

Making me rethink my Cayman GTS, which I have just put a deposit down. Will be interesting to see how practical it is compared to the Cayman.

The sad face in my post was “me” being disappointed that the V6 won’t be the £60k car, not a comment on VFM.
£60k it’s doable if the Cayman goes, but 85k it’s very unlikely whatever I sell and it’d have to be a V6 manual for me.
Loved my Exige V6 with 2bular exhaust but couldn’t justify it being sat in the garage for months at a time.

I have just put a deposit down. Bell & Covill had 150 deposits today so far and counting.

It looks stunning!

Congrats.

150! That's fantastic news for Lotus. The Carwow video has over 660,000 views in less than 24 hours and Mat Watson basically just says "buy one" over and over.

I have a feeling that despite the lack of interaction with the manual, the AMG cheaper version will be the one to have.

Maybe so but the noise that V6 makes is a huge part of the attraction for me (engine/exhaust/induction is high on my priority list for any car, regardless of anything else).

Agreed, I’d lose 40hp for the sound alone. 400hp from a 2.0t is impressive, but IMO has no place in such an exotic looking car.

IMO the 3.5 with supercharger will offer considerably more drama whether manual or IPS - low down grunt, whine and strong top end. No doubt the 2.0 will be highly effective, but these engines only offer excitement through contrived pops and bangs. Take that away and they’re often unwilling to rev and pretty soulless.

Look forward to seeing them at FOS this week 👌🏻

West Horsley? Me too.

Which version you going for? I’m AMG DCT.

Off to Goodwood tomorrow ready to pay a deposit.

Verdant green, tan leather, V6 3.5L, but manual or auto…. So close to a decision…

Definitely not a specification for resale value, but hey… it’s for me.
