The most over rated mod for the Essex (Swaymar Holley Conversion) rolleyes it couldn't use the CFM of the 390 Holley (even tuned/modded) but worse still metered fuel like a hose and bucket calibrated/dyno'd even fitted with secondary metering blocks etc , the inlet manifold was ste and mounted the carb the wrong way round , The Weber 38 or 40 metered fuel like EFI in comparison scratchchin their modded engine builds and BV cylinder heads may of been fine however

Good point, I’m considering running a 40 DVA(?) on a standard twin-choke manifold, should be up to the job?

I remember an advert for Car Cave for an imported V6 Mk1 Escort from South Africa that previously had triple Webber’s on it. It was being sold with a standard DGAS.

No prizes for working out where those carbs ended up.

You have seen my old barge before.

Had this filter when you saw it down at Beaulieu.

When built by Race Proved (for John Baring of Barings Bank), the engine was tuned to 190bhp by Weslake. There are some engravings on the back of the carb which say what the jet sizes are, this was done by Weslake according to Jeff. Rocker covers i believe are Swaymar. Prior to his death Jeff gave me all the bumph relating to the ordering and building of the car.

I’m intending using the Holley atm as I have it already, but will search around for a DFAV… I’ll grab the jet sizes off you if I do?

Just bought this… could be bored out to 40mm..

I've bored a few DGAS, DFAV & DFI5's out in the past, the DGAS below I did when I had to use the original carb on the race car, 40mm throttles, the venturis were increased to 32.5 from 27. Then hung the secondary venturis from a DFI5 on one side to increase airflow and completely remade the top. It's also best to cut the dividing wall away in the inlet manifold and change the 'W' for a 'V'. This set up with other mods. flowed enough air for around 230bhp.

Thanks, yes a long time since I played with carbs., last one I did was a Weber 48IDA, opened out to 50, with 39mm chokes, now that really did wake the Essex V6 up smile
