Hi all, read this topic with great interest I have been trying to find out information on a Mk1 Ford Capri that Tony Lanfranchi drove at Brands Hatch in the production saloon car championships sponsored I believe by radio 1 in late 1975 the car was number 16 and in the progarme was supposed to be driven by owner Melvyn Hodgson.
having spoken to Melvyn he told me that tony stepped in after he had a call that his daughter had been taken to hospital please see cutting from motoring news

Then later Melvyn himself was driving the car at Snetterton when Jeremy Walton was piloting Mike Smith's of Radio 1 fame Mk2 3 litre Capri please see attached article written by Jeremy Walton re that race.

The reason that I am interested in learning more about this particular car is that I have tracked it's history and believe there is a chance that it could well have been a genuine RS3100, Melvyn sold the car in 1976 when it was purchased by a Graham John from Chester who rallied the car it appeared in the Welsh Cambrian Rally where it was entered as a 3000 Capri, the following year it was campaigned by a good friend on Graham's Roger Powley the car was then sold to a welsh farmer named Alun Williams who again entered it in the 1978 Cambrian Rally this time however it was entered as a RS3100 Capri.
Here is a pic of it in its rallying clothes also showing Reg No

Melvyn told me that he bought the car from Ford via Warley and it was prepared by Mike Young at the time the car would have been less than a year old, Melvyn also said that the car was in mint condition and had no body work done which leads me to believe it could have been a RS3100 as it clearly has flared front wings, it is badged as a GT and has quad headlamps also the 4 following Reg No's SEV 316,317,318 and 319M are all genuine RS3100 Capri's.
If anyone has any information or more photos or indeed a contact number for Mike Young I would love to hear from you I am desperate to find this cars Chassis Number as this is the only way to prove the cars identity.
many thanks RScapriman.

Amazing acceleration on these cars, helped by the shorter rear axle.

The 3.0 Si is just so underated .

You Tube the 73 Avon Tour of Britain and see just how quick the Mathwall prepared SIs were. Very impressive performers considering the weight of them compared with the 3 Litre Capri of Gordon Spice etc.

Hi LloydL,
I was interested to see that you worked not only for Mathwall but also Autoextra at Astwood Mews. I know they were 02 rally prep speciaists but I have been unable to find out any info for their involvement in prepping Whizzos CS for the 75TT.
How did that come about?
Who were the guys who ran the business and what happened to them after that year.

Tony Ls Turkis blue 3.0 CSi was run with some sponsorship / help by Nick Van Der Steen BMW main agents, of East London who appear to have folded many years ago.

Any one know more about them ?
