Nowhere near the standard of some on here but I have done it twice now!
A month of late evenings later
Three months later, white van man didn't see me whilst driving out of a junction!
Currently looks like this but not completely finished yet.
Word of warning mate ,tis illegal to have numbers on the car unless a diagonal line or cross is over the top , unless you are competing on RACMSA sanctioned event . Surprised your insurance assessor didn't try and wriggle out . Keep up the good work .A month of late evenings later

As I mentioned....so what if it is the Blue book - this car doesn't come under MSA regs...
Anyone can run around with a number on the side of their car for decoration - look at all the Herbie reps - the MSA rules have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on cars not involved in competiton

MSA say "thou shall not drive whilst on the highway with numbers on t'car."
The law says: "fk all"
People often chime in with this gem. The 'rule' if you can call it that is this: if you are competing in an MSA licenced event and driving the car to/from said event then the MSA want you to go without numbers or at the very least blank them off or strike through with tape.
This has absolutely zero to do with the UK law on driving, cars, insurance etc etc etc.
The MGB GT was always work in progress, the changes. innovations never stopped as the performance improved certain aspects ceased to be adequate in their operation such as headlamps The original Lucas block lens were well past their end of life certification, not being sufficient to handle the frequent torrential Florida rain storms so I decided to up grade to the very latest Mini GT headlamp units. This required body modification to enable the installation including paintwork but I was determined to proceeded accordingly no matter the degree of complications.

The improvement in lighting was very impressive and well worth the effort, The visual aspect seems to be a matter of personnel opinion, some love it ,others hate it ( must be hard core originalists) I tend to see it as modern and sharp (cannot help liking my own work !)
I mostly like original stuff, but those suit the shape quite well, I like!I had a couple of good racing seasons with this Triumph TR2 sports 2 seater and really got it sorted, took a while to sort out the suspension, springs, shockers etc. the main improvement was to fit Avon Turbospeed tyres which suited the handling very well but I had virtually worn them out by the time I was ready to sell the car. I warned the new owner that the car was best suited to these tyres but it seems that after purchasing the car he was a little short of cash so fitted cheapo retreads and this was definately not the way to go !!
The next time I saw the car it was quite disappointing, it was in a terrible state ,every single panel was bent out of shape. The new owner had entered a sprint in Droitwich at the "Impney" estate which has a road/drive track that runs over a small bridge but his tyres did not hold and he hit the parapit on the stonework and rolled the car end over end and side over side , broke several bones but managed to walk away in one piece. Never skimp on tyres !!
