That X7 must be one of the most vile looking cars I've ever seen. What on earth were they thinking?!

That settles it then. I'll not be getting either of them.

It's comparing cars to what they're traditionally known for and what the brand is meant to be. Like a Mini being a small car and much smaller than a great big Range Rover wink ...

I think it was someone on here who said - Only BMW can make their latest car look like a Chinese copy of itself! laugh

OK this is a bit more of a fair comparison - a newish Polo and a 205GTi:

No pics, but definitely related....

Went for a drive to the seaside in the Land of the Rising Sheep yesterday, with SWMBO in my XE.

Some of the roads I used to drive round regularly in the '80s in a clapped out Maxi, and I'm sure the roads were much wider then! yikes

It's funny, I rip around some really tight little local lanes in my Pembleton with it's 4ft track and barely let off the throttle stop when there's another car coming. You can see both front wheels and place the car perfectly.

Yet in my big modern volvo it's (at best) slow/stop and let the other car crawl past, and at worst reverse or wait in a passing place.

So I had a look at some dimensions, and the XE is over 400mm wider than the Maxi, or nearly a foot and a half in old money tank

(looks some more) - apparently the XE is a foot wider than an early '70s XJ6, and I'm sure when I was a kid they were huge laugh

So if there is something else of a similar size coming the other way, that's the best part of three feet less spare road to play with...

And it explains why car park spaces are getting narrower - it isn't down to me eating all the pies after all!

XJ is not a small car, but looks svelte in comparison.
Maybe a camera angle thang going on with the Merc parked slightly further forward.

When did cars start getting so fat ?
Is it a reflection of our 'powerfully built' populace ?
