Incidentally, if you look at the photo above of the E-type you'll notice that the Carcoon is far too big for the car. That is because it was purchased for the C-type I built which was, with its long tail, far bigger than the E-type. It is a size 4. Most people will only need, as I do, a s size 2 or 3. It is in fact 6 metres in length!

ETA:- Out of curiosity I went out to the garage today to check on the humidity since it is getting close here to calling Noah, what with the amount of rain we have had. I checked the two 1kg silicone blocks in the car coon and they are dry. But I have taken your advice on board and ordered a dehumidifier. For under £130 it looks pretty good value, especially since I can run the drain outside so won't have to keep checking on the tank:-

Well, the Carcoon was sold to a friend yesterday and I shall delay purchasing the Veloce until the winter comes. i'll post a photo when it is up.

My cars are kept in a galvanised barn which gets nice and humid in the summer and damp in the winter.

I'm probably going to buy a Veloce for my Mustang, unless anyone can suggest a better product? I currently connect my Accumate via crocodile clips directly onto the battery and presume this is still possible inside the Veloce?

Is it possible to put a dehumidifier inside the Veloce too for belt and braces?

As above; it's August, the car won't need protecting until October, so I'm hanging on until then to buy the Veloce. The E-type, probably like most European classics, needs a size 3 and is a tad under £600

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm not going to use it until later in the year but will buy one now and get it set up as I've plenty of space. Looks like I'll need a Large as the Mustang is 4.7m long and I'd rather have a bit more than 18cm buffer over the Medium.

Does your dehumidifier live inside the veloce or inside the garage? If I require one, I'm hoping it can go inside the Veloce as the barn is 2,500 sqft so will take some kit to dehumidify that space.

Regarding dehumidifiers I’d be a bit careful.
Read up on the correct conditions to store cars.

In extreme circs, things can start to crumble!

Thanks, was intending to give Carcoon a call for their thoughts. The car is like new with no rust and I'd like to keep it that way.

45-55% rh is about your ideal limits. Less than that dries stuff out and more than that things get rusty! Permanent drain ideal for condensate but watch for it icing up in winter if you run it outdoors.

I have some silicone blocks (3x1 kg each) which I leave in the Carcoon and check from time to time. I have never needed to take them out and dry them no matter what the humidity. Remember that the air in the chamber is changing every few minutes so no time for humidity to settle. In the spring, even the disc are fine.

Only if you’ve left the drying vent open - the idea is supposed to be maintaining a stable environment inside to avoid condensation forming.

Just ordered a large Veloce in blue. The car is 4.75m long so I've oversized a bit so I can walk around it and also will make parking inside a little easier.

I'll get some photos when it's erected.

The Veloce arrived last week but only just got around to erecting it. Decided to put some carpet tiles down between the concrete floor and the Carcoon to give it a bit of protection. Seems like a good bit of kit but the instructions are appalling, I’m still not entirely sure where I run the charging lead.

The car has a couple of minor oil leaks so have also lined the inside with some cardboard although hope these are fixed before I actually need to put the car away.

Does anyone know where the trickle charger cable runs? Apparently there’s a hole somewhere to feed it through but there’s nothing in the instructions.

For now it’s going through the bottom air vent

Haven't got mine yet (will do the end of the month) but I don't bother with the Carcon anyway. I just unscrew the battery cutout. But a good point I must have a close look when it arrives.

I don't remember a dedicated port to feed wires through on mine, I seem to recall that I fed it through one of the access doors right at the bottom. If it's not convenient there I can't see it would hurt to make your own and blob some sealant around a tiny hole etc.
