Thought I'd share something I found on eBay and decided for the sake of £6 it was worth a go.

Having just carefully de-rusted the underside of my car and then treated and undersealed I was looking for something to stop my hydraulic jack scraping the pristine new coating and undoing my good work off every time I wanted to work on the car.

I've got a an MX5 with an old school metal seam on the edge of the sills which is where the usual jacking point for the scissor jack is, so this works well for that, but for a bit more security I often use the chassis rails as a jacking point and it just gives enough cushion to protect the underseal coating.

I use 1/2 a rubber ball when I jack under subframes. Makes the thing much more secure than the slippery metal cup.

Cheapskate that I am, I use small squares of old carpet folded over.

My MOT tester gives me a very strange look when I ask him to put these between the jack and the car confused

I have a collection of wooden blocks and planks for jacking, get very funny looks first time I get them out but they are an essential. I hate the thought of metal on metal, even when jacking modern cars.

This works very well. Normally I use old lengths of 1"x2" on top of a jack or axle stand. This protects the chassis lift points

Bits of old conveyor belt matting cut down work very nicely.

I realise it's a hockey puck, but the cutting has been done extremely neatly and it does the trick.

Block of wood on the jack with a freshly-washed pillow folded double in between. Works every time.

Recently discovered these after initially hunting for replacement jacking points for my modern Bmw.
Have retired my 25 year piece of 4x2.

I use those rubber pads that go between the rail and the sleeper on modern railway track. I live near a railway line and somehow the track maintenance guys scatter them all over the place, even though the track is in a 25' deep cutting.

Look familiar?: https://www.skatehut.co.uk/brands/6030_sports/ice_...

You're paying £3.99 for a £1.50 hockey puck that someone has cut a slot in! (on the one "jack-pad" picture you can even see the same writing on the side!)

If you had checked there is also delivery £1.99 on the Skatehut Hockey Puck so not a true comparison. Total price = £3.49
So yes you could save 50p and then have to go to the trouble of trying to cut a suitable slot. For 50p saving really!!

I've used a pad for years with vulc rubber top on hardwood, never thought of using something like a puck.
Given me a idea!

If you're the entrepreneurial type (like me) you'd buy 20 for 30 quid, so getting the 'FREE' delivery.
I'd then get my mate who works in the local engineering dept of a big company and get him to make the cuts needed and offer him a 'I owe you next time or a beer (it's worked before!).

Keep a couple for myself and flog the rest at the local car meets for 2.99 (ie market as cheapest available anywhere LOL).

I bet I'd sell the lot in next to no time. And possibly take advance orders for next batch. Thanks!! biggrin
