Presumably the roll bar is for stiffness. I don't remember anyone offering that conversion in period - maybe Crayford?
(About the Viva HC convertible) - It's not a Crayford. I'm not sure of the proper term to use without it coming across as derogatory, and given how long that car has been around in that form I don't want to do that. But "home made" is what I'm trying to find a polite way of saying. Has been done probably 15 years, maybe more.It was on the way to the VBOA show which now runs at a showground in Market Harborough, as Billing Aquadrome don't (or didn't, there are rumours they regret the decision) do car shows any more.

Although that's an HB rather than an HC. If they did one, I suspect they did the other, but the roll bar in the red on doesn't look as 'finished' as a Crayford one wouldlucido grigio said:

Nice cars. A few quids worth there.
By the way the "500 Superfast" is actually a more humble 365 GT 2+2.
Dammit ,you're right ,labelled the wrong pic ,in fact not even sure the 500 listed in programme was present..By the way the "500 Superfast" is actually a more humble 365 GT 2+2.
will check phone for pics.
(I assume they only ever made one....or have I got it completely wrong?)

The GTO "bread van" - is that the one I used to see on the track at classic car race meetings back in the 1970's?

Yes,it's unique.(I assume they only ever made one....or have I got it completely wrong?)
Part of the story of its creation were with the car yesterday but I've forgotten already.
I'm sure it's available with a Google.
On the subject of the 500, I'm fairly sure it wasn't there,I should've checked the cars in the programme against what was on display.
In my defence, the 365 and 500 do look similar from the front, the 500 sleaker at the rear.

The Breadvan was a rebodied 250SWB, which was specifically allowable under the GT regulations at the time (see Cobra Daytona). However, this did not stop Ferrari protesting it from time to time, forcing it to run in the Prototype class, leaving their own rather more dubiously homologated GTOs to clean up in the GT Class.Part of the story of its creation were with the car yesterday but I've forgotten already.
This Viva has been around for awhile - I saw it earlier this year [see pic] I believe it may have been resprayed - there use to be a light metallic blue Viva HC convertible a few years ago. So possibly it's this original blue car - however the blue car did not have the roll bar
If/when I get time I'll try to find a pic of the original blue car

Possibly cheating as it was an AMOC race meeting. But these were in amongst the moderns in the car park.

The Renault is a Renault 5 Turbo 2, as per the rear hatch badge. Real snobs like me cringe at the thought of them being referred to as GT Turbos. That's like someone telling the owner of a 6R4 that he's got a nice MG Metro.
By the way this Renault has been spoilt somewhat (in my opinion of course) by the addition of the Maxi 5 rally car bodykit and aftermarket wheels. A real Maxi 5 has a wider bonnet vent.
