I guess the opening quarter light prevents it being any further forward.The mirror is exactly where the factory / dealers put it, it's just the wrong type of mirror! It should have a flat head that can be angled so the driver can use it. Bullet style mirrors were used on the original chrome grilled cars, mounted on the wings, but it was re-positioned to the door on the later cars (around 1969).

I didn’t know that Series II applied to the first generation RX7 - had to look it up - skool dayz an’ all that.Like many older cars, I think it’s got a certain simplicity to its appearance now - certainly aged well, IMO
